Our Instructors
At Coogee Kyokushin Karate Dojo, we have classes for Children as well as for Adults. All classes are run by experienced instructors who are qualified under the Australian Kyokushin Karate Association. We are all passionate about Kyokushin Karate, and dedicated to inspiring and developing our students in their martial arts training.
Sensei Lisa Hodder - Sandan (3rd Dan Black Belt)
Sensei Lisa is a highly experienced Full-Contact fighter and Kyokushin Karate instructor. Beginning her training in Griffith in 2007, Sensei Lisa has vast knowledge in many areas of Kyokushin Karate. With over 10 years of Full-Contact fight experience, she has represented Australia at International competitions on 5 different occasions and holds State, National and International titles. In March 2018 Sensei Lisa successfully completed the 50 Man Kumite Test, as the second female ever to complete the gruelling feat. Sensei Lisa is also currently studying Medicine at the University of Sydney.
Sensei Ai Ikeda - Sandan (3rd Dan Black Belt)
In 1998, at the age of 10, Sensei Ai began training in Kyokushin Karate under Hanshi John Taylor, and continues to love everything about karate. With National titles across Full-Contact, Non-Contact and Kata disciplines, Sensei Ai has experience in a range of competition at State, National and International levels. Sensei Ai has represented Australia at 6 International Full-Contact tournaments, and is passionate about passing on the knowledge acquired from such experiences. Outside of the dojo, Sensei Ai is a keen stop-motion animator.
Senpai Sara Kennedy
Shodan (1st Dan Black Belt)
After taking her son to karate for over a year, Senpai Sara started her own journey into Kyokushin Karate and quickly took to the martial art. She progressed through the ranks with her son, Senpai Olly, and the two of them obtained their black belt together in 2017. Since then, Senpai Sara has become a beloved instructor at Coogee Dojo.
Senpai Tom Dimovich
Shodan (1st Dan Black Belt)
Attaining his black belt in 2003 under the watchful eye of Hanshi John Taylor, Senpai Tom has vast amounts of experience and knowledge in Kyokushin Karate. Combining technical skill with fighting prowess and functional fitness, Senpai Tom has helped a great many students work towards their goals in the dojo.
Senpai Reg O’Grady
Shodan (1st Dan Black Belt)
With a great depth of knowledge and breadth of experience in Kyokushin Karate, Senpai Reg has helped to guide many students along their karate journey. Senpai Reg has been with Coogee Dojo since it’s inception in 2007, and continues to be a valued member of the Coogee Kyokushin Karate community.
